Calorimetric Studies of Liquid Crystalline p-n-Alkanoyloxy-p'-Nitroazoxybenzene

Abstract Phase transitions of liquid-crystalline homologues of p-n-alkanoyloxy-p'-nitro-azoxybenzene possessing nematic and smectic mesomorphism were studied by differential scanning calorimetry. The phase diagrams of binary mixtures of the mesogens were obtained. Requirements for components to create new low-melting liquid-crystalline compositions with the widest range of mesophase existence were formulated. The empirical data were compared with the results obtained by calculations.
