2009.09.22 - 2009.09.25 VII International Conference "Lyotropic Liquid Crystals and Nanomaterials. Achievements in Thermotropic Liquid Crystals Research" (5th Chistyakov's Readings)

During the last 25 years the International conferences on lyotropic liquid crystals as well as Chistyakov’s readings are regularly held at the Ivanovo State University. The interest to nanomaterials and nanotechnologies has significantly encouraged attention to liquid crystals, making it necessary to generalize the last year’s achievements in theory and practical application of the advanced nanomaterials.

General Information back

About the Conference.

About Ivanovo. Ivanovo is an administrative, industrial, and cultural centre of Ivanovo region. It is situated in the centre of the European Part of Russia, in 300 km North-East of Moscow. It takes an hour to get to the cities of the Golden Ring (Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Suzdal, etc.). On its territory there are a lot of historical and cultural monuments. The most significant – a small old town of Ples on the Volga and a settlement Palekh – motherland of a world-known Russian varnished miniature. Ivanovo has traditionally been called the Textile capital of Russia. Currently there are over 80 major factories of different industries and patterns of ownership in Ivanovo, over 180 small and middle business enterprises, about 100 joint companies. Ivanovo can be considered one of the leading education centres of Russia. Great intellectual and research potential is concentrated in the city’s major libraries: Regional Scientific Library, Garelin Central City Library, and Regional Library for Children and Young Adults. Tokens of the past are preserved in the museums – of Local Lore and History, Arts Museum, House of B.I. Prorokov, Cotton Museum, First Soviet Museum and others. They were united and reorganized a few years ago into Ivanovo Local Lore and History Union named after D.G. Burylin. Shchudrov Palatka, a 17th century stone house, and Cathedral of the Assumption of the same century, are some of the architectural sites worth seeing in Ivanovo. Ivanovo is rich in theatre traditions. Nowadays there are four professional theatres and a number of amateur theatre studios performing here. Every year the city hosts festivals and contests such as "Textile Salon", "Fashion for Kids", "Fire Bird" (since 1994), "Gems of Russia" (since 1997), "Silver Voices" (since 2000), and "Mirror" (Andrey Tarkovskiy’s festival) which welcome participants from all over the country.

Dr. Ingo Dierking (Manchester, UK)

“This was my first time in Russia, and I must say that I'm overwhelmed. First of all because of the very warm hospitality, and secondly of the great organization with which my stay was planned. I had an excellent time at conference, which was also perfectly organized, and the trips to the cites of the Golden Ring were just fantastic. A huge thanks to all of those involved the translators, the drives and the guides. Brilliantly done!!! The University clearly is moving in the right direction, and I would be very pleased if we could maintain contact and develop cooperations in the future.”

Prof. Ibrahim Abdulhalim (Beer Sheva, Israel)

“I would like to thank you for the hospitality and the wonderful conference you organized.”
