The First All-Russian Conference on Liquid Crystals

Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are glad to announce The First All-Russian Conference on “Liquid Crystals,” which will be held in Ivanovo from September 17th to September 21st, 2012 at Ivanovo State University. This Conference will continue the traditional All-Soviet Union Liquid Crystalline Conferences, which started for the first time in Ivanovo and gathered together hundreds of researchers from the former Republics of the Soviet Union and foreign countries. After disintegration of the Soviet Union there were a number of the Conferences and Symposia in Russia, but only on the selected scientific topics concerning liquid crystals and their practical applications. Part of them, such as “Lyotropic Liquid Crystals” and “Chistyakov’s Reading,” were held in Ivanovo. The Presidium of the “Russian Liquid Crystalline Society” “Commonwealth” has come to a decision on the resumption of Liquid Crystalline Conferences in Russia. The first All-Russian Conference will be held at Ivanovo State University in the period of September 17-21, 2012.
The Scientific and Organizing Committees are taking great care that the Conference will be scientifically rewarding for you and that you will enjoy the spirit of the town and its surroundings, including very famous ancient Russian towns of the “Gold Ring” such as Suzdal, Palekh, Ples, and others.
The Conference will concentrate on exchanging ideas in an area that is at the crossroads of several dynamic and emerging fields in theory, physics, chemistry, biology, and technology of Liquid Crystals, Liquid Crystalline Polymers, and Partially Ordered Systems (Soft Matter).
It is the intention of the Conference to bring together scientists and researchers from academia and industry, Ph.D. students, and students in order to serve as an open forum for exchange of scientific results and concepts.
The scientific programme will include invited lectures, oral and poster contributions (60 × 90 cm) on the following topics:
- Molecular design and synthesis of liquid crystals and liquid crystalline materials
- Liquid crystalline and mesomorphic phases: structure and physical properties
- Theory and computer modeling
- Liquid crystalline polymers, block-copolymers and elastomers
- Colloid and micellar systems
- Surface interaction phenomena and confined systems
- Lyotropic liquid crystals
- Liquid crystals in biological systems
- Partially-ordered systems (Soft matter)
- Applications and devices

Language
The official language of the Conference is Russian (Abstracts, slides for presentation, and posters can be prepared in English).
Registration fee*
Active participant 3000 rub.
PhD students 1500 rub.
Accompanying person 1000 rub.
*Registration includes: Access to all scientific sessions, conference abstracts, coffee breaks, all-together party.
Social activities
During the Conference a variety of activities and tours will be arranged.
