Abstract The transformation of the orientational structure induced by the electrically controlled ionic modification of surface anchoring in the nematic layer with homeotropic-conical boundary conditions has been considered. It has been found that the change in the azimuthal angle of director at the substrate with conical anchoring can be realized by modification of boundary conditions at the second substrate.
