Abstract The effect of structural bistability within the cholesteric liquid crystal drops doped by ionic surfactant at the electric field influence is investigated. It is shown at the influence of two successive impulses of steady electric field with the opposite polarity along the composite film plane in a drop, practically homogeneous director distribution, oriented perpendicular to the film plane is formed. To get the cholesteric drops back into the unconfigured state is possible only applying alternating electric field. Both orientational drop structures, as unconfigured one (radial configuration) as the realized under the steady electric field influence one (axial structure), are stable and reproductible.
