Abstract Experimental results on electrical characteristics of lubricant compositions consisting of synthetic solidol with additions of copper isovalerate or copper valerate (dopant concentrations were varied from 1 to 20 wt. %) are presented. It was found that in the frequency range of 100 Hz – 1 MHz at different temperatures and concentrations the synthetic solidol-valerate and solidol-isovalerate systems showed two relaxation mechanisms. Maximum changes of electric conductivity on temperature were observed for the mixtures with copper valerate (5 and 10 wt. %) and with copper isovalerate (5 wt. %). According to polarization microscopy, the mixtures show areas of monotropic mesophase. The data obtained in this study will be used further for optimization of plastic lubricant compositions for different load-speed operation modes of friction units and to identify dependence of lubricant composition properties on isomeric structure of additive.
