Abstract
p-n-Alkyl- and p-n-alkyloxy-benzoic acids are two prominent classes of liquid crystal compounds with diverse applications in various fields. In this study, we conduct a comparative analysis of our prior research focusing on the phase transition temperatures and rheological characteristics of these two prominent classes of liquid crystal compounds. By this, we aim to discern any notable similarities or differences in their rheological profiles. Analysis of shear stress, angular frequency, and shear rate reveals interesting differences in the observed response of these materials. The presence of oxygen in p-n-alkyloxybenzoic acids (nOBA) elevates the temperatures at which phase transitions occurs. Moreover, owing to their non-planar structure, p-n-alkyl benzoic acids (nBA) exhibit greater viscoelasticity compared to p-n-alkyloxybenzoic acids (nOBA) acids.

Keywords: liquid crystals, benzoic acid, phase transitions, rheology, shear thinning
