Phase Transitions in the Lanthanide Containing Lyotropic Liquid Crystalline System

Abstract The phase transitions of the system based on ethylene glycol monododecyl ether – lanthanum nitrate – water were studied by polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and conductometry methods. Temperature and concentration ranges of existence of synthesized mesophases and their lamellar structure have been determined. The systems are characterized by mixed type of phase transition from lyotropic mesophase to isotropic liquid. Good correlation of experimental data of different methods for the phase transition analysis has been exhibited.
