Abstract In order to obtain data on the influence of molecular structure peculiarities on thermotropic and lyotropic mesomorphism the synthesis and study of 27 new meso-substituted tetraphenylporphyrins and their metal complexes with substitution by alkoxy-groups (from –OC4H9 to - OC16H33) in para-, orto- or meta-positions have been carried out. Mesophase types, their dependency on the structure of porphyrin derivatives and the position of substituents are investigated.
