Abstract
The influence of imidazole and 2-methylimidazole on the dielectric properties of 4-(trans-4'-pentylcyclohexyl)benzonitrile (5PCH) and 4-pentyloxy-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5OCB) was studied. It is shown that addition of polar non-mesogens results in dielectric anisotropy increase. This effect was caused by rival influence of H-bonding LC-non-mesogen on the dipole-dipole association of liquid-crystalline solvent.

Keywords: liquid crystals, mixtures, non-mesomorphic additives, dielectric and orientational properties, anisotropy, association, H-bond
