Electrogiration in Nematic Liquid Crystals

Abstract The case, when NLC, is oriented so that field E is directed perpendicular to director n NLC E n, but E||OZ is examined. Herewith a moment of torsions appears owing to the effect of electrogiration, which compensates a springy moment. In situations, when director n||OZ is under weak border conditions, reorientation of director and formation of the domain structures in the manner of concentric circumferences of different radius, repeating geometry of sphearolites begin. Wave vector of structures is proportionate to the applied field. The width of domens is the same under the different thickness of crystal samples, but equal tension of electric field. When switching off a field, the time of relaxation depends on the border conditions, herewith the torsions of helicous structures occur, and the pictures of domens are repeated in the inverse order. Correspond time of torsions of domens is 5 – 20 sec.
