Abstract The model describing the director structure distortion appearing in the three-dimensional cell of nematic liquid crystal (NLC) in the external electric field and the relaxation of this distortion at sharp switching off of the external electric field was suggested in this work. This mathematical model of NLC behavior takes into account both bulky and its surface properties.
