Relaxation of Director at Liquid Crystals Azimuthal Instability

Abstract The relaxation processes in thin layers of homeotropically oriented nematic liquid crystals under the action of a periodic low-frequency shift (frequency of exposure of ∼ 100 Hz) is experimentally investigated. It is found that the relaxation processes are described by an exponential time dependence and take dozens of seconds.
