Abstract The methods of synthesis and data on the physico-chemical properties of 10 new compounds: tetra-4-[(4'-sulfanilphenyl)carboxy]phthalocyanine copper complex and its alkylcarbomail and alkyloxycarbonyl derivatives are presented. Spectral characteristics and their relationship to the chemical structure of the synthesized copper phthalocyanines are discussed. It is shown that only two complexes (with dibutyl and octylbenzoate fragments) of the synthesized compounds exhibit thermotropic mesomorphism of columnar type. Lyotropic mesomorphism was observed only for one complex with diethylbenzamide fragment in system with DMF.
