Abstract The peculiarities of propagation of acoustic excitations through a non-ideal 1D superlattice are studied within the virtual crystal approximation. The dependence of the lowest for-bidden acoustic zone width of the described structure on concentration of impurity liquid crystal layers in two sublattices is numerically evaluated for longitudinal and transverse excitations.
