Abstract
This review is devoted to the characteristics of a new class of liquid-crystalline gels (LC-gels) with non-covalent networks. They are obtained by the addition to liquid crystals (LC) of some relatively low-molecular weight organic compounds (gelators) containing various functional groups which are able to form gels with physical networks in the LC media. The LC-gel structures, their morphology, optical and electro-optical properties are examined and some areas of practical application of such materials are described.

Keywords: iquid-crystalline gel, physical gel, hydrogen bonds, self-assembly, electro-optical properties
