Abstract
Thin layers (20—125 micron) of nematic liquid crystals (МBBА) were studied. The cell of "sandwich" type was used. The acoustic analogue of Freedericksz transition, which manifests itself in the form of formation of a stationary tilt angle of liquid crystal molecules was experimentally discovered and investigated as a result of the impact of low-frequency periodic shift (frequency shift about ω ~ 100 Hz). This effect has a threshold character of origin. It was experimentally determined that the threshold amplitude does not depend on the frequency of exposure, the thickness of the LCD layer and the heating temperature of the sample.

Keywords: nematic liquid crystal, acoustic Freedericksz effect, orientation instability
