Abstract The mesomorphic and dielectric properties of the binary mixtures on the base of nematic 4-hexyloxybenzylidene-4'-toluidine containing non-mesogenic compounds (4-aminobenzonitrile, 4-nitroaniline, imidazole, azobenzene, hydroxycyanobiphenyle) were studied. It was shown that addition of polar compound (excluding imidazole) resulted in increase of dielectric anisotropy of the mesomorphic mixture. The influence of H-bonding and H-complex structure on properties of the binary mixtures was analyzed.
