Abstract
The shear-banding phenomenon in worm-like micellar systems is studied. It is shown that the shear bands can be explained within the framework of a structural model of the flow. Flow curves are well approximated by the Newton equation or generalized flow equation at low and high shear regions. The intermediate region with a non-monotonic behavior appears due to the transition from one flow regime to another with increasing shear rate or shear stress.

Keywords: worm-like micellar systems, shear-banding phenomenon, plastic and pseudoplastic flow
