Abstract
LC cell with one side covered by orienting coating providing a predetermined pretilt angle of director is examined. The other side of the cell has no significant orienting effect. Non-orienting surface of the cell is called «free» and the LC cell with one orienting side is called «one-side oriented» or «one-sided». When there is an orienting field applied to the cell, the LC director will be distributed from a given contact angle and to the planar or homeotropic ones (depending on the sign of the dielectric anisotropy). A method for calculating the distribution of the LC director to the one-side oriented cell depending on the thickness of the cell and the pretilt angle of the director on the side of the cell, which is covered with the orientant, is proposed. Theoretical and computer model of LC director distribution is performed. Theoretical and computer model of dependence of the difference of the phase retardation ΔΦ is carried out.
