Mesomorphic Esters of 4-Alkyl(aryl)cyclohexenecarboxylic Acids. Synthesis and Properties

The paper is dedicated to the synthesis of 4-alkyl(aryl)cyclohexenecarboxylic acids and their mesomorphic esters and the investigations of physical-chemical properties of the prepared compounds. It was found that the mesomorphic esters of 4-alkyl(aryl)cyclohexenecarboxylic acids have a number of advantages in comparison with the analogous esters of 4-alkylbenzoic and trans-4-alkylcyclohexanecarboxylic acids. They allow to obtain various LC compositions with low threshold voltage, fast switch-on and switch-off times and a wide temperature range of the nematic phase.
