Abstract
In а brief review the development stages of the metallomesogens science by Kazan chemists and physicists have been presented. Modern data on the preparation and application of metal-containing lyotropic and thermotropic liquid crystals based on lanthanide (III) ions are reported. Present state of art on spin-crossover mesogenic compounds is reviewed.
