Influence of Chiral 4-(2-S(+)-Methylbutyloxy)Benzoic Acid on Mesomorphic, Dielectric and Optical Properties of Liquid Crystalline Mixtures Based on 4-Alkyloxy-4'-Cyanobiphenyls

Abstract Mesomorphic, dielectric, optical and orientational properties of the 4-(2-S(+)-methylbutyloxy)benzoic acid solutions in liquid crystalline mixtures on the base of 4-alkyloxy-4'-cyanobiphenyls (CB-6) were studied. Clearing points of the mixtures were measured by polarizing microscopy. The stabilizing effect of the chiral dopant on the thermal stability of the mesophase is shown. The decrease in optical and dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystalline mixtures under the rise of the dopant concentration was observed. This effect is associated with a decrease in the order parameter and compensation of dipole moments of polar mesogens.
