Abstract The synthesis of heteryl-substituted phthalocyanines and their metalcomplexes combining 1-H-1,2,3-benzotriazol and some other nitrogen-containing heterocycles at the periphery was carried out for the first time. The structure of the obtained phthalocyanines is confirmed bringing in the data of elementary analysis, electronic, infrared and H1 NMR spectroscopy. The influence of substitute nature and coordinating centre structure on spectral and mesomorphic properties of synthesized compounds is discussed.
