Abstract Principles of construction of rheological models are considered. Basic rheological equations obtained in the framework of the structural model and within the continuum mechanics are presented. Possibility of application of the structural rheological model is shown for high density of polyethylene melt and low density of polyethylene melt. Shear viscosity, elastic modulus and viscous modulus are described by the equations of the structural rheological model. It is necessary to take into account the existence of different rheological behavior in the regions of high and low shear rates (or high and low oscillatory frequencies).
