Selective Properties of Carbon Adsorbent Modified by Mixed Adsorption Layer of the "Liquid Crystals – β-Cyclodextrin" Modifier Under Gas Adsorption Chromatography Conditions

Abstract The article discusses selective properties of carbon adsorbent Carbopack Y (CpY) modified by the supramolecular polar nematic liquid crystal 4-(2-hydroxyethyloxy)-4'-cyanoazoxybenzene (HEOCAB) and the unsubstituted β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) under gas adsorption chromatography conditions. It was found that during modification the mixed adsorption layer "HEOCAB + β-CD" is formed on the carbon adsorbent surface. It was shown that the modified adsorbent has a moderate selectivity with respect to the xylene structural isomers and possesses high enantioselectivity towards polar enantiomers of butanediol.
